Sooner Tea Party

Apparently I spoke - or wrote - too soon when I said the July 4th Tea Party in Oklahoma City had been canceled.

Another organizer has stepped in and has reserved the State Capitol grounds for the morning of July 4th, from 10AM to noon. There is a Facebook page for this event as well as a website: www.soonerteaparty.org.

The website features a link to the John Birch Society. If they are involved, I may be staying away from this event.

We'll see.

  1. I am helping organize the Sooner Tea Party, mainly the physiccal stuff, podiums, water, things like that, and we are aware that the John Birch Society has a reputation.
Me personally, I don't know much about them, but several of our people said exactly what you did, so I plan on looking JBS up on the internet today and find out what all the fuss is about.

I can promise you that the they won't be speaking, and if there is any controversy, they won't have a table to distribute any material. This group is dedicated to keeping this mainstream and non partisan, we don't even want it to be too far to the religious side.

Thanks for making your point about the JBS, I'll make sure this is considered.

  3. Al - check out my post at http://moralitywar.blogspot.com/2009/06/kern-pushes-proclamation-for-morality.html

From what I understand, the JBS is actively involved with the extreme Religious Right here in Oklahoma.

  4. Before passing judgement on the John Birch Society may I suggest that you check them out. Members come of all religious backgrounds including agnostics. In addition, when we cut down ANY organization that is committed to restoring our nation to a limited and constitutional government we simply hurt the greater cause we are all fighting for. There may well be members of JBS helping to organize the Sooner Tea Party or even speaking and you don't even know it. Members of JBS help out at a lot of activities without even announcing their membership. Why? Because there always seem to be a few people who look at them cross-eyed instead of seeing them for the helpful person they are.

  5. I have been aware of the John Birch Society for at least 30 years and consider myself well qualified to pass judgement on them. They are no friends of freedom.
